Camp Films also produces community and promo films with integrity from development through to delivery. From 2000 Camp Films made ten films for Sheffield Independent Film, and two others for Firth Park Community Arts college. These films involved working with young people to take them through the film making process and provide them with the skills necssary to make their own film and to inspire them to go on into the film industry. The primary aim of these 'First Light' Films was to provide young people who wouldn't normally have the chance to have a learning experience that would inspire them through their lives. I hope this was the case. A nice art direction idea we came up with was the use of orange cagules in the forest in one of the First Light Films. A particular success of the First Light Project's was Adam MacAlevy's 'Mad Dog Mongrel' which involved young people making their own papier mache and chicken wire frame 'Mad dog' to great effect.
Camp films has made films for Sheffield Futures and other youth agencies working at Forum level as well as making a promo about the 'New Deal' in 2001. Camp films worked with eight trainees and a professional camera and sound and edit mentors to deliver a professional project to deadline with a budget of £10,000. We used split screen in the edit in a style made popular by '24' and a portable blue screen technic. Good fun to make although we weren't sure about the 'New deal' message.
